A village panchayat member in Baduria, North 24 Parganas, has been accused of filling a pond to build a residential house, disrupting the natural water drainage system. The pond in question is located in the North Deyara mouza and is officially recorded as plot 383. The land has been listed as a pond in official records for several centuries. Locals allege that the pond was filled by Sonali Gaine, a member of the Jagannathpur village panchayat, who then constructed a building on the site.
Residents claim that the filling of the pond has resulted in the blockage of the local drainage system, which has historically served to manage water flow in the area. As a result, during the monsoon season, the area experiences severe waterlogging, with several parts of the locality getting submerged. The flooding has led to difficulties for the residents, disrupting daily life and movement in the area.
Following the allegations, a written complaint has been submitted to the local land revenue office and the Baduria police station. The complaint raises concerns about the illegal filling of the pond and the subsequent impact on drainage and flooding. Despite the complaints, no official response or action has been reported by the authorities at this time. The local panchayat head, Rita Mondal, has acknowledged the situation and confirmed that an investigation into the matter will be carried out. She stated that action would be taken based on the results of the inquiry.
